Eligibility

All requirements must be met in order to be eligible to apply for a vehicle: have not received a vehicle from this program in the past, live in Story County, have a child 18 or under and/or a child in K-12 school living in home, under 150% of poverty (guidelines can be found at aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines), have enough income to budget for vehicle maintenance/fuel/car insurance, have a valid Iowa driver's license, In the last two years, do not have an OWI, conviction of driving with a suspended or revoked license, conviction of failure to restrain a child, or conviction of more than 2 moving violations, Felony crimes of a violent, sexual, or drug-related nature and dates of conviction must be noted on the application as well, the applicant household may not have a running vehicle

Description

Ames Ford and United Way of Story County have partnered to bring Wheels For Work to Story County. Ames Ford accepts donated vehicles, then completes a safety inspection and any necessary repairs. In partnership with United Way of Story County and referral agencies, the Wheels for Work program then selects and donates the vehicle to a family in need.
