GENERAL ASSISTANCE | ALGONQUIN TOWNSHIP

Provides monthly financial assistance to persons who do not have adequate income or resources to provide for their own basic needs. Funds may be disbursed for specific basic maintenance needs such as shelter (rental/mortgage assistance), utilities, food, clothing, household supplies, personal essentials, and laundry.

General Assistance eligibility is re-determined monthly, by appointment, and as long as the recipient maintains his/her eligibility, they may continue to receive a monthly General Assistance grant.

Centralized Financial Assistance is open to anyone in Linn County that needs help with financial assistance (e.g. rent, utilities, etc.). Local area agencies that help with financial assistance in the Linn County area are transitioning to a Centralized Financial Assistance center that can help direct residents of Linn County to the appropriate financial assistance resources in their area. This is a collaborative effort between United Way of East Central Iowa, Linn County, Waypoint and local community agencies.

If you need help with rent, utilites or mortgage in the Linn County area you MUST call the Centralized Financial Assistance number to get help from the following participating agencies:

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE | ROCK ISLAND TOWNSHIP

Administers the General Assistance Program. Eligible clients may receive a maximum of $435 per month towards rent, utilities (MidAmerican or City of Rock Island), personal needs and food. Vouchers are issued to clients and checks are mailed to the rental property owners. All rental properties must be registered with the City of Rock Island.

Typically, clients are single, unemployed or applying for Social Security Disability (SSDI) and have no other means of financial self-support. The application process can take up to 30 days.

In February or March, the Township usually receives a grant for help to families by paying one month's rent or mortgage. The maximum grant is $450.
