This grant program focuses on persons in a temporary transportation crisis, including persons who have lost a job, lost income due to a death of a loved one, experienced high medical bills, experienced a natural disaster, or are starting over due to domestic violence, as well as other possible emergencies.

Those who qualify need a way to show stability moving forward past the temporary assistance provided.

Typical financial assistance is under $2,000. Applicants receiving revolving loan assistance will be required to participate in financial literacy courses in addition to repayment of the loan within an agreed-upon timeframe.

The programs are intended to help meet immediate financial emergency needs and help make a positive step toward a lasting financial solution. Assistance many be in the form of loans or grants.

Assistance programs may help with emergency assistance for rent or utilities, medical or dental care costs, funeral expenses, vehicle expenses (repair, payment, insurance, gas, etc.), pet medical care or transportation to/from an overseas assignment, food, personal hygiene items, child care expenses, and more.

Ames Ford and United Way of Story County have partnered to bring Wheels For Work to Story County. Ames Ford accepts donated vehicles, then completes a safety inspection and any necessary repairs. In partnership with United Way of Story County and referral agencies, the Wheels for Work program then selects and donates the vehicle to a family in need.
