Provides information and assistance to older adults at several sites in the community. Seniors needing assistance with Medicare, housing, energy assistance, Public Aid or other needs are able to meet with and receive assistance from a certified caseworker. Seniors may call to speak with a caseworker or meet with a caseworker in their own home if they unable to come into one of the sites affiliated with Ogle County SIS.

LIHEAP (low income home energy assistance program) provides assistance with a utility bill. Applications are accepted November 1 - April 30; for elderly or disabled individuals applications are accepted starting October 1. Income must fall within 200% of poverty guideline. Call for an appointment. A letter has been sent to those who may be eligible for early application in August or September.

**This program is not designed to pay a household's total energy costs. The program will provide supplemental assistance based on several factors. This is a one-time payment to your energy provider.

Assists individuals or families who are at immediate risk of homelessness and seeking emergency shelter to identify safe, alternate housing arrangements, and if necessary, connect them with community referrals to help them obtain or return to housing.

Can also assists with applications for benefits made available by federal, state or local laws.


Provides rides to medical appointments to the VA Hospital in either Knoxville or Des Moines. Call at least 5 days ahead with the date of appointment and the time and location.

Provides assistance to residents who are needy and poor and in need of immediate assistance and who cannot obtain assistance from any other source. Recipients must be at least 18 years of age and meet current income and resource guidelines.

Assistance may be provided for rent, utilities, or indigent burial, to name a few. A voucher system is utilized with direct payment to the vendor, never cash. General Relief is unable to assist with deposits or first month rent payments.

Provides assistance to individuals and families who are facing a crisis situation with food and/or shelter. Homeless prevention services can assist families who are facing eviction or utility disconnection in preventing their family from becoming homeless.

Crisis funds may be available for one month's rent, utilities, or groceries for a short period of time. This assistance is intended for individuals and families who need temporary, one-time assistance to resolve an emergency situation.

Assists persons who have a past due notice or are shut off for Black Hills gas and Lincoln Electric System. Must meet eligibility requirements. Individuals may apply a maximum of once per year.

Offers housing stability-related services, in-person only (during active hours). Clients speak with a specialist to see what resources are available. Services may include the following:

Connects youth and families with resources and support. Navigators have the ability to "fill gaps", either through helping agencies partner around a common goal, or through flexible funding for needs such as rent, utilities, transportation, and more.

Community Response is designed to reduce unnecessary involvement of child welfare and juvenile justice while increasing the informal and community supports for youth and families. By utilizing Central Navigation, the goal is to coordinate existing resources and match participants with a resource to either solve an immediate need or develop a longer-term coaching relationship.
