Assists individuals of all cultures to assume responsibility for their own health through education and outreach services. The Division responds to public information needs or issues related to health and safety, and works collaboratively with other community entities to formulate responses to issues which impact public health. Major program areas include:

Chronic Disease Prevention program promotes activities community-wide that encourage healthy living, embrace health screenings for early detection of disease, and encourage appropriate self-management of existing diseases. Additional effort is placed on reducing the high incidence of chronic diseases among racial/ethnic minorities and other vulnerable Lancaster County residents. Program activities include community education on topics such as reducing the incidence of childhood obesity, increasing physical activity, and developing healthy eating habits, diabetes prevention or control, learning to manage chronic health problems, and colorectal cancer awareness.

Injury Prevention and Safe Kids Lincoln-Lancaster County coordinate activities directed at reducing unintentional injuries and death. Priorities are established by the Injury Surveillance System and Safe Kids Lincoln-Lancaster County. Print material, videos and presentations are available on bike and pedestrian safety, fall prevention, child passenger safety/occupant restraints, and home safety. Tobacco Prevention and Control provides tobacco prevention information/education to schools, businesses and the community, and cessation referrals.

Carol's Closet can help veterans, seniors, and persons with disabilities with household items including furniture and bedding, hospital beds, walkers, wheelchairs (including motorized), shower chairs, commodes and adult hygiene items. In addition, Carol's Closet can help families with newborn baby clothes to size 6 children's clothes, diapers, new cribs and car seats, baby essentials, and household items including dishes, furniture and bedding. Carol's Closet also has a handicap accessible van and standing lift for loan with a donation. Carol's Closet accepts donations of good and has opportunities for people to volunteer.

Provides Child Passenger Safety Technicians who are able to help educate caregiver on proper use of car seats. This program can provide no-cost car seats to families in need, but does not distribute infant carriers. This program gives convertibles, combinations, and booster seats. The convertible seat can accommodate a baby as small as 5 pounds.

Car seat checks available by appointment.

Works to prevent unintentional injury to our community's children.

Provides adult education classes, in home safety and child passenger safety. Also provides a variety of injury prevention education for ages 3-19. Public health educators are available to present safety information upon request.

Assists the residents of Sarpy and Cass counties in understanding and implementing strategies to prevent unintentional childhood injury.

Offers free Stop the Bleed/Hands Only CPR Classes, Child Car Safety Seat Checks, and BLS Healthcare Provider CPR Classes ($25).

Family Case Management can help with understanding the importance of prenatal care, find a doctor for prenatal care, understand proper nutrition for both mother and child, understand the stages of child development, get information on how to become a better parent, learn the signs and symptoms of 0-term labor, understand the importance of regularly scheduled well child visits, understand the importance of immunizations, connect to other resources.

Family Case Management Public Health Nurses and Case Managers can see clients in the office and in their homes. Provides information related to prenatal needs, infant care, and parenting. Provides the opportunity to learn more about household safety tips to protect the infant or child.

Parent Share and Support Program has certified Technicians on staff at each center to answer questions on proper installation and use of car seats.
