Holiday baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas

For eligible families, a holiday food basket will be prepared upon request. Please call for details for food assistance.

Thanksgiving and Christmas (Signup Dates are November 1st through November 15th, Mon-Fri 9 am-10 am and Wed 4 pm-5:30 pm.

Christmas Shopping day at Greater Love is Tuesday, December 17, 2024, 9 am-2 pm and 4 pm-7 pm.

  • Selections of new clothing, toys and other miscellaneous gift items will be display for ALL Madrid area residents to choose for your Christmas gifts.
  • All items are given at no charge - two shopping bags (provided by Greater Love Ministries) per customer.

Provides special meals during the holiday season and helps families in need for holiday season.

For Thanksgiving/Christmas 2024, Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas gift distribution programs and dates and times vary by location. Families are encouraged to contact their local office for details.

Distributes shopping bags filled with all the fixings needed for a complete Thanksgiving dinner to families with financial need in the community.

For Thanksgiving 2024, the Meal Bag Giveaway is held on Saturday, November 23rd, from 8 am until supplies run out. The event is located at the FaithWorks Pantry, South Entrance, at FaithWestwood.

Provides one Meal Bag per household. Recipient must be present to receive a bag (no proxies). Bags are given out on a first come-first serve basis, so it is recommended to arrive early.

Holiday baskets include holiday meal food items and a certificate to redeem either a turkey, ham, or chicken at participating locations.

Baskets are limited; clients who apply for a food basket from another agency are not eligible. First come, first served. Basket recipients will be notified via postcard or phone of pick-up details.


For Thanksgiving and Christmas 2024:

Food Baskets applications will be available beginning October 1st, 2024. Application must be completed in-person during Food Pantry hours: Monday &Friday 9 am-12 pm. Families may select either Thanksgiving OR Christmas while supplies last. Please one ONE basket per family per year.

Thanksgiving sign-up is Oct 10-Nov 3, 2024. Distribution: Nov 17, 1 pm-5 pm at the American Legion.


Christmas sign-up is Oct 23-Oct 30, 2024 (partnering with CRISP - call CRISP 515-462-9400. Households without children can apply through MATURA until Nov 20, 2024. Distribution is Dec 19 and 20, 2024.

For Thanksgiving 2024:

Provides Thanksgiving food boxes to Richardson County low-income households who can use help with groceries.

Proof of Richardson County residency is required; no paperwork otherwise.

Provides 1 pantry per household.

Available at SENCA's Richardson County Outreach Office (Richardson County Courthouse, Room 101 - Falls City).

Empowers low income individuals and families in need with the ingredients to cook a Thanksgiving meal in their own home rather than eating at the Open Door Mission on Thanksgiving Day. This also includes extra groceries to help during the Holiday season when school is out. There will be only 1 Turkey 'N Fixins program per address.

For Thanksgiving 2024:

Beginning November 1st, community members can come to the Timberlake Outreach Center or the Council Bluffs Outreach Center (on the days they are open) and receive a turkey or a ham, along with some other traditional Thanksgiving specific foods as a part of their once a month shopping time. (Only one turkey or one ham per address.)

Program through Nov 27th. Individuals/families can receive Turkey N Fixin's Wednesday-Saturday at the Timberlake Outreach Center, and on Tuesdays only at the Council Bluffs Outreach Center. Individuals/families will need to have a current piece of mail with them when visiting either Outreach Center.

For Thanksgiving 2024, a Thanksgiving Meal is offered. This can be picked up in the month of December with the monthly food pantry pick-up.

For Christmas 2024, the Operation Santa program is offered. Parents can pick out gifts for their children (ages birth-18) if they qualify, at a pop-up shop in December (date to be determined; by appointment only).

Visit the office and fill out an application before the deadline in November (date to be determined); parents will then be pre-approved for a time to come and select gifts for their children. Gift options include new and gently used clothing, games, puzzles, etc. Parents also receive a $50 gift card and $50 voucher for each child.

Provides Christmas Dinner 2024 on Sunday December 22, 2024. Dinner go go boxes will be available for walk-up pick up at the front door from 12 pm-1:30 pm , follow the signs for vehicle pick at the side door on Dorgan Place. Delivery service will start at 11 am.

Please call Brenda at (563) 583-1779, Mon-Thu from 7 am-3:30 pm to order a home delivered meal. Deadline to order is Wednesday December 18, 2024.

Sign up for Christmas food boxes and toys for children starts October 24th. Visit the Salvation Army at 120 South 7th Street. Applicants must bring driver's license and proof of children in their home (insurance cards, Medicaid Cards, school IDs).

Offers a Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner to those in need.

Served November 28, 2024, from 11 am-1 pm.

Offers seasonal produce and other food to Center for People Clarity cardholders during expanded food distribution hours. Center offices will be closed during this event.

2024 Holiday assistance includes Adopt A Child/Family and Christmas Baskets. Baskets are distributed at the Adair County Matura Neighborhood Center. Gifts are for children through 10 years old.

(Carroll County) Giving Tree/Toys for Tots forms are available at the Carroll Outreach Office starting October 17th. To be eligible, applicants must have primary custody of the children being signed up, must be a resident of Carroll County, have children ages 14 and under, and be on New Opportunities' programs. If applicant is approved, they will receive a letter specifying when unwrapped gifts may be picked up in December. Forms must be completed and returned to the Outreach Center on or before November 10th.]

Palo Alto County Outreach may provide holiday food boxes during Thanksgiving 2024 as well, depending on donations.

One pantry distribution per address. Photo IDs are required for each household member. Clients may not receive food at one pantry and receive food at the other. Clients attempting to receive food at more than one Heartland Hope pantry per address will be denied.

Thanksgiving 2024 bonus items will be offered during regular shopping hours to registered clients during the month of November.

We will offer our traditional Christmas Meal Box and Christmas Gifts for Kids to registered clients in December. Registration began October 1st.

December Blessings registration ends November 27, 2024. Offering Christmas Gifts for Kids and Christmas Meal Box. Pickup is on December 13, 2024

To qualify:
If client has used this pantry's services for the last three months and resides in the Waukee School District and has recently provided a proof of residency and identification for each person in their household, they may already be qualified; please complete an online application. If this is the first time applying for assistance or client's information in WACS's system is not current, client must bring required documents to the WACS office during food pantry hours within 10 days of submitting an application.

If client already applied at another agency:
If client has been approved or expects to be approved with another agency for their holiday program, client will be disqualified from this program. This includes, but is not limited to, West Des Moines Human Services, Toys for Tots, Shop with a Cop, Angel Tree Programs and other food or gift giveaway programs.

**Applicants are not qualified for the program until identification for each person, and proof of residency is confirmed.

Once approved, applicants will receive an email confirmation with pick up instructions, including date and time. If applicant has not received an email confirmation, please contact WACS at [email protected] or (515) 987-5523. Please bring a photo ID in order to receive dinner boxes and gifts.

If client cannot make the assigned date and time for pick up, another family member or friend can pick up on their behalf. Please call and let WACS know who has permission to pick up items, or make other arrangements. If client does not pick up items or make other arrangements for pick-up, their items will be given to families on the waiting list. Failure to pick up may disqualify client's family from future programs.
