The plant receives garbage from Ames and the surrounding communities in Story County. Private contractors are available to haul garbage, but citizens can do it themselves. The plant recovers reusable metals and garbage and recycles everything that's possible. The non-burnable material is sent to a landfill.
Recycling bins are available for food waste, glass, plastic bottles with screw-top lids, metal, clothing, cardboard, and mixed paper.
